This was a really good book, if hard to read emotionally. It's a part of the WWII story that we don't typically hear about - Russian labor camps. And this story specifically about a family from Lithuania.
There wasn't really a firm plot, just a relation of experiences. And the ending was very sudden.
Specifically addressing the audiobook... I started listening to it and it took me a while to realize that the story was jumping back and forth between the main character's present and past. The audiobook did NOTHING to denote the changes in time. Not even a slight pause. I actually went to the library and found a copy to see what was done in the physical book and found that the present was written in regular text and the past in italics. I really wish something was done to help differentiate the different time settings for the audio. It was confusing even after I caught on to what was going on.
