It’s been over six months since I read the last book in the Mafia Misfits series.  I’m wondering if that gap made me struggle to feel connected to this world again or if it’s specifically just this installment that did not leave me with the same feeling I had while reading the other books.

In every installment, there is a pretty decent balance between mob boss business and love— this one is no different. However, I found myself taken with Violet’s storyline more than the building of her and Finn’s relationship. The twists started to come over halfway in the book and I think this made the pacing feeling a bit disjointed. A few other couples in this series have a somewhat insta-love connection, yet this time it didn’t really work for me at all. Considering Violet’s past as an SA survivor this book could’ve been longer to take the time to dive into her character more and a slow burn would have made more sense for a pairing like this. Finn is rare as he is the first male MC Monique has written that I didn’t end up loving like I do the others and this could be due to the fact that he bumped heads with Luca.

This novel was much fluffier than I prefer which is ironic because both MC’s are killers. I understand that the fluff may have been intentional to help balance out their gritty personalities, but it had the opposite effect and seemed too out of sorts with who these characters are outside of their relationship.  Overall, Sinful Obsession seemed rushed and struggled to find its footing. Since I love the author’s writing, I was still entertained and found quotes I love but this story did need some fine tuning and further character and coupling development.
