Five on a Treasure Island is a fun adventure novel with a lovable cast of characters. It conveys fantastic messages that are important for children and adults alike. I think its biggest flaw is the writing. I know that it's written for children and that the chapters need to be short and to the point, but that really killed my excitement at times. I got into it and boom - chapter done. The last few chapters I felt were the weakest in terms of writing. It was underwhelming and very simplified, and the dialogue awkward. Despite the issues, I did enjoy the novel and I'm glad it got me into the reading habit. I did not realise there were 21 books in this series, so I doubt I'll continue this.
