I can't believe this was [a:Amélie Wen Zhao|17649437|Amélie Wen Zhao|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1574462746p2/17649437.jpg]'s debut! This was such an amazing book, and I feel as though more authors should follow her way of writing.

First of all, props to her for incorporating all of the culture (I think Russian, I could be wrong though). I LOVED the world-building and uniqueness of this world and story! Zhao was able to flourish the world and make it seem real to me without being overly flowery. The subtle little drops of setting allowed the readers to stay immersed in the story and focus on the plot!

Secondly, I enjoyed the back story. The fact that she interspersed the character's backstories instead of info dumping it all on us at the beginning was very nice.
