I enjoyed the author’s use of dual timelines and that the narrators for both were distinct. As someone who loves watching horror movies, I enjoyed the concept of this book and thought overall it was done well. There were a handful of twists which I like to see in a horror/thriller such as this one and I thought they were executed well and I didn’t manage to guess all of them.
The pacing slowed in places especially in the first half of the book which gave the narrative a slight claggy feel in a few places. It can read a little bit like a slow-burn with the first half of the book or so but I thought the suspense was done well and there was just enough suspense for me that I didn’t get any feelings of boredom. I think I would have preferred to have had the chance to build more of an emotional connection to the main characters that way I would have felt more betrayed as well as surprised during the bigger plot twists and reveals. It has a big cast of significant characters which isn’t unusual in thriller novels but I would have liked for them to be better distinguished and more memorable than they were.
