Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

4.0

***This is more of a 4.5/5 star review***

Why did it take me so long to finally pick up Stalking Jack the Ripper when my heart sings for true crime? WHO KNOWS! I have been listening to true crime podcasts non-stop, but figured if I wanted to actually reach my goal for the year, I should do an audiobook. And this was the perfect fit for both mystery of a crime, and a book! The version I ended up getting from Audible was really awesome too because it had a soundtrack that went with it, so it even felt more like the podcasts I've been listening to. It was absolutely great!

Stalking Jack the Ripper follows Audrey Rose, a woman who defies all societal expectations by learning the science of autopsy, and performs them with her uncle who is a well known coroner. She must keep this from her father, otherwise he will put the kibosh on everything Audrey Rose wants to learn about in fear it is "unladylike". But when women start turning up dead in alleys with some of their organs missing, Audrey Rose puts on her detective hat with her uncle's protege, Thomas Cresswell, and they begin investigating these murders. No one seems to have any leads for this murderer, and it seems like everyone could be guilty. Can Audrey and Thomas solve who is behind these gruesome murders? And what will happen when the truth comes out?

I highly enjoyed the audiobook, as I already stated, and the soundtrack with it enhanced it just that much. The only reason I'm not giving this a full 5 stars is because I guessed who Jack the Ripper was kind of early on, although I kept second guessing myself based off the events that happened throughout the book. It kept me on edge and I enjoyed the focus on the autopsies since that's a bit unsettling in itself, and it's not a side you normally see, especially in a novel. The premise of the whole book, taking a real life unsolved murder investigation and putting a fictitious spin on what could have happened was a really fun idea for me, and I think any true crime junkie would enjoy this story.
