Verity by Colleen Hoover
3.0
I’m hesitating between 2 stars , 3 and 3.5 for so many reasons .
I’ll be listing everything I liked and didn’t like :
What I liked :
1/ the writing style is very accessible.
2/ the premise is intriguing and gripping.
3/ the pace of the plot is great . You can easily read it in one day . The writer was able to keep me hooked from beginning to end ; wanting to know more .
What I didn’t like :
1/ some of the conversations are repetitive .
2/ I was able to anticipate some of the events except for that ending which we need to seriously talk about right now ..!!!
3 / *imagine me saying this in cardi b’s voice* : WHAT WAS THE REAAAASON , WHAT WAS THE REEEEEASON ???? Colleen , dear , this book was doing just fine without that ending . No matter how much I have tried to process it , I just couldn’t wrap my head around it . It was POINTLESS for reasons I cannot mention fearing that I might spoil it . You won’t believe how much I laughed . It was cringeworthy in my opinion .
The last thing I want to say is this : I’ve heard so many things about this book when it first came out . Lately , I’ve seen a lot of hate towards the author because of her storylines. I’m so happy for the people who enjoyed this book and consider it one of they favorites. I do believe that everyone is free to say and think whatever they want about a book ( ‘’each one to their taste’’) , but I have a message -that probably not many will read but here it is on the internet anyways - to the people who called this book ‘sick and twisted ‘ . If you think this is what ‘sick and twisted ‘ books look like then I’m sorry to tell you that there are WORSE in ways you cannot comprehend. Characters can be ‘sick and twisted ‘ but it doesn’t mean that The book is also THAT . I understand why people would hate this story , but for it to be a reason to hate the author Is -in my opinion- exaggerated .
This is just my point of view and it’s only based on a single book . It’s my first time reading anything by the author and I’m definitely going to be reading more ( I want to know if her books work for me or not ) .
