This book is beautifully written, the story is grand and sweeping, and the settings are gorgeous. I love non-western fantasy and I really wanted to love this. But it's basically military strategy and that is just not my vibe. 

Also, I was 19% in and it still hadn't passed the Bechdel test. There are barely three named women and there is no instance of two of them talking to each other, let alone not about a man.
And that definitely isn't my vibe.
