Edgedancer is a novella set in the world of the Stormlight Archives and the events of the book occur between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer. We follow Lift, a minor character introduced in Words of Radiance. Edgedancer was a nice look at other happenings around Roshar. It felt like an extended interlude story that Brandon has used so far in the first two books. We do learn more about Lift and Darkness, but not an in depth look at the characters like we've seen from Kaladin, Shallan and others. I will say, if you've read Words of Radiance and you read the interlude, you can skip the Prologue of Edgedancer. It's the same story.
