A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

5.0

Wow…this book excelled my expectations. I liked the first two, but the pacing felt miserable and I didn’t feel like I fell in love with any of the characters. This book changed everything. The pacing was tight and succinct and pleasurable. The characters were so much more fleshed out — thanks to the multiple POVs added— and I was finally able to relish the feeling of falling in love with them totally and completely. I will say Alucard and Rhy had both managed to steal some of my heart at their first appearances. I loved their sass and playfulness, but seeing the darker shades of grief and loneliness and doubt in this book expanded them as people. Kell and Lila, on the other hand, had more often than not driven me crazy with their rashness. Somehow Schwab turned all of that on its head —rashness became survival, guts, and courage. Even Holland… a dude I gave no fucks about since the start became a quiet, sturdy presence throughout the story. And added to all of these now well-formed characters came the storm of all of them clashing together and tearing apart throughout the “big baddie”storyline. This third book definitely earned its 5 stars from me.
