The Beast Player by Nahoko Uehashi

5.0

Of all the things I've read lately, this is among my very favorites. I love how the book is grounded in real-world observations of animals, enough that Uehashi is able to use that as a foundation for the reader's belief in the behavior of the Royal Beasts. I love what an exploration of the other this book turns out to be, and a study in how small, seemingly simple acts can have such large implications depending on the context.
