One third of this book covered the challenges in a children's school gang, one third was mad science experiments in a dream, and the last third was following rebel forces in a war. You guessed right that it was all as confusing as the previous two books. I'm sure I won't understand completely what happened without a re-read and a lot of help of the Locked Thomb Wiki.
