This series is certainly trending downwards for me. We had a few pretty awful chapters in the beginning. There was one in particular which felt like some low grade Erotica and I really didn’t like it.

Aside from that this book was split in two major arcs and I didn’t love either of them. The first one was about the culmination of a long standing war between humanity and another species and I liked that one more overall. However it felt like it lacked emotional impact. I just don’t have the kind of bonds with a lot of the newer characters that make me feel totally invested. However I did love it when the scope got smaller and the story focussed more on Elaine and another character that’s been around from pretty early on in the series.

The second part was about a major discovery about the world and while that felt pretty intriguing to begin with, a lot of stuff about that story just felt boring and dull. We got introduced to a new race we haven’t previously met and they just felt very uninteresting in general. Combining that with Elaines awkwardness in social situations made for some pretty cringy chapters. There were positive parts in those chapters though, mainly some big reveals about the system and the name giving Dragoneye Moons. Those alone have me hooked and make it more than worthwhile to continue.

I also really liked that we got some minor Interludes with other POV characters. I hope we get more of those since it seems Elaine's story is going on a different path and I don’t want those characters to be forgotten.
