The Ghost: The Secret Life of CIA Spymaster James Jesus Angleton by Jefferson Morley

4.0

Pretty good overview of a beguiling man, with much of his official work still (and possibly forever) cloaked in secrecy.

It's tough to write a book on Angleton that doesn't go in a million different directions, but Morley does a good job staying as focused as he can while still weaving in the larger scope. Some of it does feel like a taste of other books begging to be written, like the Watergate section here he expanded into The Scorpion's Dance this year.

(A side note: having read Hersh's The Samson Option, I found it a more plausible account of Israeli nuclear material acquisition than the theft listed here. It just seems like an unnecessary conspiracy!)
