Making Faces by Amy Harmon

5.0

Now that I had some time to process everything I still don't know what to write and how to start. I honestly didn't expect to like this book as much as I did in the end but OH MAN, THIS WAS FREAKING AMAZING! It's my first book by Amy Harmon but I already know it won't be my last ... definitely not!

Let me talk about the main characters first. There's Ambrose Young: handsome, strong, incredibly talented and someone everyone loves. Fern is the complete opposite: she's quiet and shy, "ugly" and usually no one notices her. But when Ambrose and his friends go to war and only he comes back, not even looking like himself anymore, things are about to change drastically.

"I would rather be lost with you than alone without you."

Those characters? Damn. They're real and unique and it feels like I know them in real life! Throughout the book you get to see different sides of every character which only makes you love them more. It also wasn't so much about the romance between Fern and Ambrose but about friendship, embracing who you are and hope. This book basically covers everything. Love, loss, friendship, death, fears, war, disease, abuse and family. Whatever it is, I'm sure you can learn something from reading this - I certainly did.

And then there's Bailey. He's Fern's cousin and has a disease that bounds him to a wheelchair. Just don't expect him to be bitter and sad or hopeless because he's not. Bailey is such a great character and I adored him so, so much! He might even be my favorite out of the book, that's how much I loved him, yes! He's funny, smart, loyal and generally just such an amazing guy that you HAVE to like!

"This last year I've felt like one of those snowflakes we used to make in school. The ones where you fold the paper a certain way and then keep cutting and cutting until the paper is shredded. That's what I look like, a paper snowflake."

I could talk about so much more but honestly? Just go and get it! Everyone should give this a try because I'm sure you'll love it and you'll learn something - even if it's just something "unimportant" about Hercules (Actually I think it's pretty cool!). PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! It's beautifully written with amazing characters, a great story and some lessons for life that will help you one way or another.
