In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
2.0
The more I think about this, the more I realize that this is not good. A boring hen party gone wrong. Someone entered the house in the middle of night, they thought it was a burglar, shot the intruder, and the police ruled it out as murder.
The first half of the book was really slow—nothing thrilling happened aside from the back and forth of the timeline between Nora in the hospital and her time in the house—but I appreciate the atmospheric writing. The dropping of some clues in a lazy attempt to lure the readers was not interesting at all, because it was very obvious from the start who the culprit was.
The characters fell flat to me (except for Nina, I thought she really had some funny and snappy, sarcastic remarks), especially the antagonist. I've read that type of character many times before, and I thought nothing was served new on the table.
Seriously, I don't understand the hype. All claps to the marketing team for doing their job hyping up this generic-ass, boring thriller.
