The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon
5.0
Oh my gosh. This book was so good. You can feel the tension right away.
Think enemies to lovers meets fake dating (or fake exes in this case). That’s what this book is!
Shay is the producer for a public radio afternoon talk show, but she’s always dreamed of being on air. After being at PPR for 10 years, she finally gets her chance. Although, maybe not in the way she expected. In comes Dominic, fresh out of grad school (which he won’t shut up about btw)! Dominic is instantly liked by their boss, and it infuriates Shay. After all, she’s been there for years and still has to prove herself.
One afternoon the whole team is asked to pitch new show ideas. Shay jokingly mentions a dating show. After expanding on it, she pitches a show co-hosted by two exes talking through what went wrong in their relationship and how they could have saved it. This would go over a wide variety of relationship topics, bring in real stories, and they’d even bring in specialists. PPR then announces they are in trouble and that they have to cut a show and some personnel. This puts Shay’s and Dominic’s jobs in jeopardy. That is, unless they co-host The Ex Talk as exes. Shay and Dominic are dumb-founded. They can’t stand each other, plus they never dated. What happens when your dream job is handed to you, but you can’t stand who you’ll work with? Is it worth lying to everyone you know?
I will gladly read anything written by Rachel Lynn Solomon after this and Today Tonight Tomorrow. This is definitely my favorite adult romance, I can’t even put how great it is into words. The writing is amazing! The characters and their relationship development sucked me in so much. Plus, this story took something overdone and made it seem new. Absolutely recommend
