The Memory Police by Yōko Ogawa

5.0

Utterly brilliant. Ideas, story, delivery, all are absolutely excellent, and the central themes, of forgetting, of losing oneself, of attempting to connect with someone who sees the world entirely differently from you, are all explored in surprising, funny, agonising ways. The prose, translated by Stephen Snyder who also handled Ogawa's equally good Revenge, is simple and beautiful. Read it.
