I love how Pulley chooses the genre of her story based on the time and setting. So even though the story looks a lot like The Kingdoms set in Post-Stalinist Russia, because it’s set in the height of the Cold War we get a tale of intrigue and espionage rather than swashbuckling Hornbloweresque romance. Not as well executed, but perhaps a better conceived book. Still so worth the read.
