This was a great book, but I really didn't like the ending. Which is such a shame as otherwise it would have been a higher review from me!
The book follows Oraya, the human daughter of the Vampire king, as she goes through life and death trials, competiting against vampires who are stronger, faster and better at magic than her. Oraya is a truly strong female character, she's ruthless, calculating, a great fighter and hungry for power.
So it's just a shame what they did with the ending!!!!! She should not have sacrificed her gift for Rhain like she did. Or at least if she was going to use the gift for him she should have done something like asking that he was alive and she was a vampire bonded with him like she was gonna do with Vincent. Instead she just got Rhain to win and Rhain then killed her dad and has essentially made her his slave. I hate it. I also hate that Rhain pretends to his guards he'll rape her when he knows she has trauma about that. He says its to keep her alive (the guards want to kill her and he basically is saying he'll give her a worse fate) but I still don't think I can forgive him for this. What a dick. Oraya deserves way way better. And I was sad to see Vincent die. He was a really interesting character.
But yeah, a shame that the ending let it down. We'll see what the other books have in store.
