Headshot is a quickly paced novel that follows six teenage girls through a two-day boxing tournament in Reno, Nevada. While Headshot gives glimpses of the girls’ lives and aspirations, the novel centers on the violence of girlhood and the intimacy of sports. I’ve never quite read a novel that captures this experience so acutely.
