Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
1.0
There were a lot of issues I had with this book, but the main one was that many of the allegories used made no sense, but they used lots of chemical jargon to make them sound scientific and profound. This is the quote that made me go from feeling meh about this book to strongly disliking it: “Today we’re going to study three different types of chemical bonds: ionic, covalent, and hydrogen. Why learn about bonds? Because when you do you will grasp the very foundation of life. Plus, your cakes will rise” (Ch 29). If nothing about this quote bothers you (not even the inaccuracies or fallacies) and you enjoy stories about family drama, maybe you will enjoy reading about the relationships formed between these characters and all their tragic backstories.
