All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin
5.0
Okay, Bethany, I think I read a bit more than half of it tonight. More like...all of it. I ate it up, just like Anya ate all that yummy chocolate!
This review might not be the most...clear-minded piece of writing you've ever read, as I'm gearing up for a Psych marathon and I'm just tired. So...be careful when reading, you may get verry confused.

WHEW. I might need to stop going on weekend one-day book binges. Maybe..just maybe.
All These Things I've Done took me on a journey to a foreign world (in which I would never want to live) and threw me around, taking me from happy, angry, annoyed and then back to happy again. This book had so many twists and turns, so much action and drama, it's like a whole season of a soap opera stuffed into one book.
All These Things I've Done takes place in New York City in the year 2083 when chocolate and caffeine are illegal and vouchers are needed for just about everything. It follows the story of Anya Balanchine as she struggles through her complicated and haphazard life to try to find peace for her family.
The plot was so so crazy. There wasn't always something big going on, but the troubles in Anya's life were always following her around, no matter what the novel was focusing on. Even in the parts of the novel where nothing much was happening I still felt like I was being swept along on a giant wave, slamming into so many rocks and cliffs. The action never really stopped, and I quite enjoyed it. All the action made this book a somewhat fast read for me, as I always wanted to find out what was happening next.
The characters were lovely. Anya was so unique, and I could totally understand why she did what she did. Her character was shown so well throughout the novel, every piece of information from her past, as well as her thought process was clearly outlined and described in the book. I loved it! So many novels these days will try to briefly describe each character just enough, and I never end up connecting with any of them. I think I connected with Anya quite a bit, with all the responsibility she carries on her shoulders. Even though Anya was the main focus, character wise, none of the other characters were left out. You get to learn about each character and their story (or even just a piece of it) throughout the story. Anya's view point showcased each character very well, even while she was thinking of them one way I was able to see it in another way, and not end up getting annoyed at either Anya or the character in question. It was all just so clear, and although I did get annoyed with Anya a few times I could clearly understand her and each of the characters.
I'm sure I'm just rambling by now, but I'd like to say a few more things.
The cover and the actual hard cover book look really cool. I love how the hard cover of the book is textured like a chocolate bar, the exact brand that is Anya's favorite throughout the story. It added something extra to the book, which I really enjoyed!
There is probably something else I want to say, but I can't quite place it or think of it right now. I'll try to add it if I can think of it, but I doubt I will...so I'm done!
5/5 stars! Another masterpiece by Zevin, I can't wait for the rest of the series.
