Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

5.0

utterly strange and one of those books you just have to commit to to understand it’s brilliance.

it’s a strange mixture of so many different genres and ideas, and if you read just the first half of the book nothing makes sense, everything is confusing and it’s all just frustratingly strange and nonsensical.

but then it all starts to unravel and things get revealed, slowly but steadily.

it’s still a bit strange and it still a book that doesn’t give the whole answer at the end but it’s also one of those books where i am not even sure if we need to know if it’s real or not.

if you are against strange books, if you need it all to be wrapped up nice and tidy? if you want explanations and specific reasons?
don’t read this!

if you want something utterly strange, a little but whimsical, otherworldly and unsure? if you don’t mind not knowing what’s happening for a while or even ever really getting all the answers?
this book is for you.

i think it’s done rather brilliantly.
and that’s coming from someone that wanted to stop reading after the first few chapters because it just all didn’t make any sense and i just wanted some answers!
but i couldn’t stop!
i wanted to know!
yes i was frustrated but it’s really brilliant how the author structured the book. both compelling you to read on while also giving you so little to go on for so long that you start to question if there will ever be answers.

really well done!
