Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
3.0
3/5 Stars: ‘Cemetery Boys’ by Aiden Thomas.
→ Age Range: Young Adult.
→ Genre: LGBT+, Urban Fantasy.
→ Trigger Warnings: Transphobia, Misgendering, Deadnaming.
In-depth Rating:
→ Plot: ★★
→ Character Development: ★★★★★
→ Setting: ★★★
→ Entertainment Level: ★★★★★
→ Writing: ★★★
General Comments: Not only does it build a beautifully intricate world, by combining high fantasy with Latinx traditions, but it is set against the diverse and authentic setting of East Los Angeles in a youthful, contemporary, and entertaining tale. The heavy subjects of transphobia, deadnaming, gang violence and loneliness are tackled with delicacy and thoughtfulness. The plotline is predictable and, at times, cheesy.
Favourite Quote: ‘Things weren’t magically fixed by an empowering speech, but it opened doors and built bridges.’
Time Read: Twelve Days.
→ Audiobook: No.
→ Audiobook Narrator: -
