The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
3.0
Taryn Duarte is a raging bitch. Words cannot describe how much I absolutely abhor her.
I am extremely proud of myself for making the above statement only after reading 50 pages.
While reading the book, I inevitably kept comparing it to the [b:The Iron King|6644117|The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1)|Julie Kagawa|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327877670l/6644117._SY75_.jpg|6838626] series. And I was disappointed. While there is plenty to love: the morally grey characters (my favorite), the pacing, and the surprises, this book falls extremely short when it comes to world-building and descriptions.
I read the whole book and I can still not adequately tell you how June's room or the palace looks. I can't tell the color of half of the outfits. Neither can I understand how big the carriage or the toad is. While this may be a genuine choice on the Author's part, it made me dislike the book.
This may be a tiny plot hole but it keeps irking me: The author forgets about the night and day switch at times. Like, when the Prince throws the twins into the water, it's night. So, how can you see anything inside the water?
