Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson
3.0
I read Broken and was so moved and delighted that I decided to go back and read Furiously Happy. But woof this thing did not age well. There was maybe one story (the giraffe head) that did make me laugh. Everything else was either clearly hyperbole or burgeoning on offensive for no reason at all. The chapters on mental health that had me sobbing in Broken just didn’t pack the same punch in this one either OTHER than the fact that she described beat for beat exactly how she experiences anxiety and hell if that ain’t exactly how I experience it too. Turns out I have agoraphobia and no one bothered to tell me even after more than a decade of mental health treatment! Fun!
