Fairy Tale by Stephen King

5.0

" This may not seem like a Dark Souls type of book at first until you get past the 200 page mark, and once you go in, it'll be hard to let go of this book.

I was thankfully down with Covid when I decided to finish this book that's been sitting on my table for a month and then proceeded to finish it in a week, all the while, going into crying fits. This book is a love letter to me and all the people who understand that dogs and animals are flesh and blood family.

Stephen King has his own style of writing when it comes to 1st person narratives that you either love or hate. I'm in the neither spectrum, while I don't hate his style, I just never cared for 1st person POV. That said, this book is pretty easy to read. He uses what he tells you from "On Writing" into this book, so he's not a "do as I tell you" , type of person. Which is tldr: give enough exposition and description to the reader, but not Tolkien levels of it.
However, I do feel in my opinion, he kind of over stays with expositioning a bit when it comes to Charlie describing his thoughts about what certain things pertain to (can't go more into detail without spoilers)

Though don't let any of this turn you away from what, I think, will probably King's best work to date. If you love Dark Souls, but not for action, but for lore, this book is for you!
