Dare to Love by Carly Phillips

3.0

I've been feeling slumpy, so I have been looking for books that are quick and easy to read or listen to. The box set of this series books 1-6 was available in the Audible Plus catalogue, so I decided to give them a try.

With it being the run up to Christmas my brain doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with more complex stories right now but the neurospicy in me needs the distraction of something whilst I prep and wrap and do all the things ready for Christmas day. This series being available in the Audible Plus catalogue right now gives me what I need it to, something to have on in the background whilst I accomplish tasks. Is this the best story ever written? No. Are the characters deep and their connections complex and meaningful? Also no. But is it entertaining enough to do what I need it to at this moment? Yep.

Books like this are what i internally refer to as a gossip/celebrity/trashy magazines in book form. And I don't mean that in a bad way. Sometimes, you just need "mindless" entertainment with stories and characters that aren't overly complex or hard to follow, and this delivered that. Riley is best friends with Alex. Alex is the half-brother of Ian, and the history there is messy and causes some friction. I'm not usually one for insta-lust/love stories, but when I'm slumpy, they can work well for me. I liked that Ian saw Riley, wanted her, and went after her. Riley made some stupid choices at times and wasn't always fair to Ian, but that just added to the story. The spice was better than I expected it to be, although it did feel rushed at times. Overall, it was an entertaining listen from the Audible Plus catalogue and onto book 2 I go. 🌶🌶
