Il fu Mattia Pascal by Luigi Pirandello
5.0
Pirandello is one of the great modern Italian writers, and his classic IL FU MATTIA PASCAL is a must-read. A bitter man is wrongfully mistaken to be dead by his family, so he decides to run away and create a new identity, a blank slate that might give him a second chance at enjoying life. Many have dreamed of such a fantasy, yet Pirandello shows just how hard it is to live a lie as big as this, where every action ultimately has a (negative) reaction to Mattia's psyche, where his old and new personas start to blend together. Terrific book!
