Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
5.0
This is a book for Matthew fans and for people who understand him. Matthew fans, not Friends fans.
Definitely don't read it if you don't understand his (90s?) humor and don't want to read about him being an a** throughout his addiction. Sometimes the book goes back and forth, which might not be for everybody.
Note: I've always been a huge fan of Matthew, and that may have been the reason for the extra star. Friends and the cast have helped me through a lot. So excuse me for being supportive! But I was disappointed in THAT sentence circling the press. Sure, there are some odd moments that didn't need to be said. I tried to go into this with a fresh mind after random parts of the book were released online.
It was a tough read at times, but there were also some nice moments where Matty looked back gratefully.
I was wondering which parts he wrote back then (I'm hoping that includes the dated and uncomfortable comments).
"They don't have a brain that wants them dead."
"I just wanted this brain of mine, this thing that stalked me, to quieten just for a few hours at least..."
(The main two sentences in which I related to deeply).
The physical copy has some sweet photos, including one of Matthew at the American Comedy Awards (1996) with Lisa Kudrow, "the funniest woman in the world."
Recommended for Matty fans.
