Another month, another Freida backlist read. This is one of the more popular, highly rated of Freida's works and I can see why. I definitely enjoyed the initial premise and set up, and liked the dual timeline aspect, slowly getting the storyline of what happened 11 years prior. It created good suspense. However, there is always a feature of amnesia around the drastic event that Freida relies upon heavily and this trope is certainly getting tired now.
The characters are unlikeable yet again, I wasn't rooting for anyone and certainly not for any of the 'romance' in the storyline. The epilogue really flipped this book on its head, something I love about her typical format. It gave me a good laugh and probably attributed to an increase in my rating.
I genuinely think the writing was significantly better than her more recent books I've read, it didn't feel as repetitive or bland so maybe her backlist is the way to go?
