Although at times a somewhat dry piece of research, The Birth of the Propaganda State: Soviet Methods of Mass Mobilization remains to this day one of the most accessible sources for understanding a period and a subject often overlooked. It must additionally be remarked that the author has gone through multiple troubles to humanize the main actors of his research, showing us a very personal Soviet Russia.
