I liked the characters, but the plot is really dumb. The video game that plays a major role in the plot is incredibly implausible, the idea of aliens who are advanced enough to travel between stars bothering to conquer an inhabited planet rather than just finding a suitable uninhabited one is dumb, and the bit at the end where the author spends far, far too long explain how made-up future technology works is terrible. Basing it on the plot, this would definitely be one star, but like I said, the characters are pretty good.
