I finished this book roughly twenty minutes before my book club meeting on it so I did read it in a rush but that's my bad oops. It was a bit heavy and a bit weird but I enjoyed it! It was more character-driven than plot-driven because, as the title suggests, the main character did spend a whole year sleeping. The characters were all very interesting, some in a good way, some in a bad way. I really liked that we never got to know the main character's name because it made me more immersed in the story, like I was actually the main character somehow. I also really liked that we never got to see what actually happened during her black-outs, that added to the mystery and made me sympathise with the main character's worry more.
I found the pacing to be a little off though, the first months were very slow and then the last months were VERY very fast. The ending was also very predictable.
We knew that the end of the main character's year of rest and relaxation would be summer 2001, and we were reminded several times that the main character's ex-boyfriend Trevor and friend Reva both worked in the twin towers, so I highly suspected one or both of them would be there during 9/11. Then there was a metaphor/parable about planes near the end of the book, which really sealed the deal for me. There was a moment when I started to wonder if I had misinterpreted this because we were still only in the beginning of 2001 at the time, but then the pacing changed significantly and I realised I was actually right. The only thing that really surprised me in the end was that the main character managed to just quit drugs seemingly without problems when the year was up lmao
