The White Book by Han Kang
5.0
Like a gut punch but in slow motion. I want her mind, her insight, her words.
You don’t necessarily have to be a woman to read or even enjoy this book BUT like Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami, this is written to be felt by women. (At least, I think so.) Being a woman, reading this allows you to observe the process of a woman working through her inner pain. The emotions present in this book relay a connection that transcends boundaries allowing it to reach into the depths of every woman who gets their hands on this.
The color white is the leitmotif as the author uses it to express her grief. She finds seemingly mundane ‘white’ things and turns them into heartbreaking tales. WHITE WHITE WHITE big or small it doesn’t matter. All it is is pain.
Small Pills definitely one of my top favorites.
--- I want, so badly, to read this in its original text.
