My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
4.0
I am laughing as I type this out because while I know so many people didn't enjoy this book for its unexciting plot, I actually enjoyed it for an entirely different reason.
I really enjoyed reading about Lagos and where the sisters were raised. My husband is from Lagos so for me it turned into an entire experience because I got to talk about with my husband and there were just so many things that were in the book that my husband has experienced or shared with me.
More than anything I was soooo annoyed with Kolede's choice to stick with her sister and not be honest about what had been happening. It is a very short read, so I don't think it is fair to say that people wanted some grand connection with the characters... I mean the book is not even 250 pages. If you're walking into this book thinking it is going to be something that will change your world, it won't. It's really about two sisters, the community and culture that makes it a standard that older siblings must take responsibility for the younger one no matter what, and how twisted that can become.
