A Time of Dread by John Gwynne
5.0
I started this book back in November and made it about 50-60 pages in. For whatever reason. I could not bring myself to read it, even though I knew John Gwynn was an exceptional author and had heard only good things.
Well, this past week I finally forced myself to sit down and get through this read. And it was absolutely wonderful! Once I recognized the characters and got used to the pacing I flew through this and found myself anxious when I wasn't reading it. Even now I am dying to pick up book two (thankfully I have the rest of the series already).
This is a high fantasy story but it reads quite easy. So anyone wanting to get into high fantasy but are fearful of things being too confusing or having major info dump won't find that here.
I loved EVERY character who we got a POV for. Sig and Rev are my favorites as of right now, but Bleda and Drem were equally intriguing as were the stories that brought each of them together.
I suspected what was going on with Rev early on and was excited to find out my hunch was correct. I'm anxious to see what this means for our spitfire of a woman.
