Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

5.0

Exceptional novel! A classic thriller in the traditional style of engrossing prose and sophisticated characters. Du Maurier is a master storyteller, very Woolfian in her use of language which positively sings in this intensely interesting tale about an enduring presence known as Rebecca. She possesses the house known as Manderley and has a disturbing effect on its inhabitants - curbing her successors' ability to put her stamp on the place. Fans of poetic prose will enjoy the cadenced ebb and flow of the authors pleasing syntax. Tension, pace, narration, characterisation, everything is pitch perfect! Highly recommended. Thanks Evie for the suggestion :)
