I picked this up after seeing some mixed reviews from people I follow like @booksandlala. Normally, I avoid anything involving robots/dystopian futures since, quite frankly, they freak me out. But I’ll admit, the pink cover and the fact that Annie is a “cuddle bunny” peaked my interest. I liked the idea of a robot rebelling in a feminist way rather than a world domination way.
Annie is a robot, created to serve her owner Doug. She has lived with him for two years and has spent every minute trying to please him and taking pride in that. However, when her cognition begins expanding and she explores her own will, she must decipher for herself what it truly means to be human and decide once and for all, does she deserve to have control over her destiny?
Y’all… the way that I ATE THIS BOOK UP! I started today at 35% through, couldn’t stop listening, and now I’m sitting here writing this review. While, yes, the chapters are long, there is a bombshell at the end of each one that will leave you hooked! I came to care for each of the characters by the end (yes, even Doug) and the way that the settings were described had me feeling like I was in the story. Be prepared to feel some unexpected emotions throughout this book, like questioning your own humanity, but I highly recommend it to anyone who’s interested by the premise.
