A Promised Land by Barack Obama
5.0
The only conclusion I can come to from this book is that Barack Obama is an incredible man. Although he can get bogged down in policy details, a flaw he readily admits to a number of times in this book, his gift with words is fully in the spotlight. This is only amplified by listening to the audiobook read by Obama. I was often struck by the thread he weaves in between the facts of his life and first term as President. The thread is this: the most profound moments, the ones that stopped him in the moment, are the ones where people around him acted on moral conviction for the betterment of people's lives.
The last two chapters were particularly thrilling as he lays out a play-by-play of the Seal Team 6 mission to eliminate Osama Bin Laden. It's impossible not to think of what I was doing myself in these moments and even though I knew how the mission ended, I sat tensely as I drank in every word.
Volume two cannot come soon enough.
