Wow. This book is beautifully written, and offers such a harrowing perspective on creation and motherhood and ~the horrors~ of modern life and what it means to be “natural” in a time of such rapid technological advancement.
This was definitely one of my favorite books of the year so far, but I wouldn’t necessarily make a blanket recommendation to everyone— it’s very intense, and has graphic descriptions of traumatic pregnancy and birth. The whole second section, “birth,” made me feel pretty nauseous and honestly afraid, especially as someone who wants to become pregnant and have a child someday. But I think that’s a testament to the writing— it’s so specific, so compassionate, and so evocative. Also, this makes me want to re-read Frankenstein.
