The alpha 'rescue' vibes were strong in this story, emotional rescue mostly, but it was there. This series takes these morally grey group of men who run an unofficial network of providing safe passage to victims of domestic abuse. Raven had previously been in such a situation when she was young but the trauma persisted. The long standing friendship between Otto and Raven was the grounds for her to be able to finally trust a man with intimacy but it was a slow burn to that end.
I love a good push-pull connection in a romance and this couple had all that. There was a sense of 'no-entry' in their connection because Otto was the long time best friend of Raven's brother. Raven didn't hide her feelings as much as Otto did but there were gone for one another.
As much as Raven felt safe with Otto, there were things happening around them that threatened that safety. Otto's push was grounded in his sense of inadequacy and lack of goodness. Raven gave Otto a safe haven to be find value in himself and that was the most satisfying part of this read for me.
If you love an alpha male who isn't superior but still eminates those vibes, then this series is a good one for you.
