The Private Lives of Trees: A Novel by Alejandro Zambra

4.0

Zambra is quickly shooting up in my favorite writers. This short novel has incredible depth to it, focusing on a new relationship, the man's relationship with the child, an absence that is felt (including literally in the text), and an unexpected bit of meta fiction and a time jump. There's a sense of wistfulness to the whole novel, and an exquisite tension that builds up around the absence in the book. Will be reading more of Zambra.
