Crazy Brave: A Memoir by Joy Harjo

5.0

An interesting autobiography about Joy Harjo's life, including photographs, and many quick reads. It is a good example of contemporary oral tradition being written down and passed on to future generations. It is something that you can read within one sitting and mostly focusses on how Harjo came to be a poet. It is written in a manner that shows you exactly how she became a poet--there are times when you think the story is going one way, but then it goes elsewhere. It is easy to get lost in her prose and glance up and you're on the last few pages. A good discussion of feminine issues (broken hearts and bodies) as well.
