I loved this book! I was concerned going into it that I wouldn't understand a lot as I have never even visited New York but this was not the case. Jemisin has done a great job of describing the city and the people in it.
I enjoyed the way the book handled privilege and prejudice, describing how people can be affected by them, and also how the main villain played on these things in order to gain power and a foothold within the city.
My only complaint was that the main characters felt a little bit flat, but it makes sense in the context of them leaving their past life behind in order to fulfill their roles as avatars of the city.
An amazing book, I'm excited to read more of the series and more of N.K. Jemisin's writing in general.
