The feeling I had when first reading The Poppy War is something I will try to recreate for a long time, but revisiting Rin’s story has given me a new found appreciation for the utter-ably intricate word that R.F. Kuang creates.

The character progression and pacing combined is truly addicting. Discovering the system of the gods and shamans is so beautiful on top of Rin’s already fascinating transformation. She’s undeniably my favourite character ever, war crimes and all.

I’d also just like to say the illustrations throughout the special edition are incredible, I loved seeing the characters and story brought to life.
