Herd That is the first book in an all new series by a favourite author – about a family of cowboys who as children underwent a traumatic tragedy that though they survived physically; left a lot of mental scars for them to deal with.

Our hero, Ace Valentine, a honest to god chaps wearing cowboy, is just trying to get his family’s ranch back into black with his brothers. He is not interested in any sort of distractions; not even a one night stand let alone a committed relationship when he crosses path with a woman who seems to have made a permanent residence in his thoughts.

Codie Spears is back in a town that she has hated; just to help out her grandfather after a health scare; it is a town that has already made its own judgements on her as a wild teenager; and it is a judgement that she now wears proudly; for she knows that nothing will ever change the town’s opinion about her. So the last thing she wants is to be enamored with the town’s reclusive cowboy; one who will not leave anytime soon.
Ace and Codie’s instant attraction was one of the best sources of entertainment for me as a reader; especially Codie’s inner monologue (spoiler alert: she is hilarious AND sassy!) and when it is accompanied by the push and pull relationship these two seem to have, it one emotional yet beautiful ride altogether.

Written with the typical Lani Lynn Vale flair; we have some amazing new protagonists and secondary characters to root for in the rest of the series; plus a little drama, a lot of emotions and a sense of familial belonging, I am so looking forward to the rest of the Valentine Boys’ HEA!
