Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter series is a great way to pop into YA fantasy novels. The series is so big now that the characters unfortunately feel reused and unoriginal in some cases. Her historical setting is better than her contemporary novels. What I will say is that nothing really happens in the first 200 pages, the ending is good and it sets up the next book well but the first half of the book is hard to keep interested in.
