Ronia, the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren

4.0

I picked this book up because it reminded me in title and cover art of Rowan Hood: Outlaw Girl of Sherwood Forest by Robin McKinley. Frankly, that book was a little bit of a disappointment given my high hopes, and I've been looking for something to ameliorate that particular letdown ever since. I have an epic vision that I failed to satisfy with all my teenage Robin Hood fanfics, and I continue to seek that far-off pinnacle, okay?

This book turned out to be not really about that kind of thing at all, but I'm not disappointed in the least. Its scope is very little, and it is about love. Specifically, nearly every kind of love except the romantic kind. I would say it's a "cute" book, but it is far too important for that, and I would say it's a "gorgeous" book, but it is far too cute for that. Maybe "lovely" would work? Regardless of how it is described, though, Ronia, the Robber's Daughter is very worth reading.

The only thing I wish this book had done differently is that honestly, all of Matt's dialogue should have been exclusively in capital letters.
